Kai is my favorite right now... nice balance in the hand, cuts through anything reasonable (6 plies of heavy cotton twill is common for me). Very sharp. Kai will resharpen/recondition for $5. I can't help you with pinkers: I'm still using my grandmother's Wiss pinkers that have to be 70 years old now.

If you decide you like Gingher (which is a popular choice), Costco has an excellent deal now if you need some specialty scissors, too -- as I recall it's about 8 pair of various types for around $80, The only problem is that there's no 10 or 11" pair of dressmakers in the set. The set is usually stocked around the office supply area.

If you've got arthritis or very large hands, these are excellent for comfort. They are not nearly the quality of Gingher or Kai, but they'll get the job done.
