What is a better device to use for baseball training?

I am looking into buying a batting aid and i dont know if i should get a pitching machine or something like the mauer quickswing.
Any suggestions?

I have used the "Hurricane" hitting trainer for my players. It is endorsed by Derek Jeter. I think it has helped my players quite a bit. The thing I like about it is that it is inexpensive and you are not chasing balls all over the place. Also, you can practice inside or out if you have enough room. I have used it in the gym when it rains. I think the technical benefits cant be beat.

Check out this website for some great info. www.webball.com

Hope this help and good luck. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

A thick or bulging stomach can be due to several factors: Too much fat under he stomach skin, too much internal fat, weak stomach muscles and engorged intestines due to trouble with the digestion. To get a really nice stomach all these factors must be taken care of with appropriate measures.

THE RIGHT DIET

A right diet is one important key to getting a nice stomach. A good diet will help you loose fat, regulate your stomach function and help to build strong belly muscles.

The diet should not contain great amounts of fat and carbohydrates, but it must contain a good portion of full valued proteins at each meal. The diet should also be as natural as possible, without much added sugar, much added fat, chemically altered fat or refined carbohydrates.

Good protein sources are fish, seafood, foul, mushrooms, lean diary products, eggs, spawn, lean meat, nuts, almonds and sunflower seeds.

You need of course some carbohydrates and fat even though you should not exaggerate the consume of these. Good sources of carbohydrates are full corn bread or cereals, peas and beans. Good sources of fat are nuts, sunflower seeds, fat fish, almonds olive oil, rape oil, almond oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil, sunflower oil and nut oils.

Try to vary between many oil types to get a right mixture of fatty acids. Do not only use soy oil, palm oil or corn oil as some do, since this will give you too much of only some fatty acids.

Food sources with much fibre, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants will help your body to get rid of excessive fat, help to build muscles and help against bulging of your stomach due to digestive trouble. Full corn bread or cereals, vegetables and fruit contain good amounts of these necessary substances.

EXERCISES

Another necessary means to get a nice stomach are muscle exercises. You can find many good stomach exercises from a detailed instruction book, but here are three simple ones. Do at least 4 series with at least eight repetitions of one of the exercises at least every second day.

- This exercise strengthens your lover stomach area: Lie on your back. Use your hands as support under your buttocks. Lift your legs so that your feet are higher than your pelvis. Hold that position some seconds. Then lower your feet again. If your legs are straight, the exercise can be a little hard for your back. In order to make it less demanding for your back, you can flex your knees somewhat when you do the exercise.

- This exercise strengthens your upper stomach area: Lie down straight on your back. Place your hands under your neck. Lift your upper body some distance over the floor. Your whole lower body shall all the time have contact with the floor. Hold the position some seconds. Then lower your upper body again.

A variation of this exercise lets the effect work more on the sides of your stomach than at the central part: Flex up your knees and twist your knees and lower body to the left side. Then lift your upper body some times. Then flex your knees and lower body to the right side and lift up your upper body some times again.

- Training devices that allow you pull or press down with your arms are also good to strengthen your stomach muscles. You stand on your knees, then stretch your arms right out, and then push or pull down at the device. Such devices are also good to strengthen the sides of your stomach. To do so you straighten out one arm to the side and push or pull down some times, and then do the same with the other arm.

Of course you should not only exercise your stomach muscles, but have a complete exercise program for the whole body where the stomach exercises are just one module. Regular condition training like running, cycling, swimming or skiing is also valuable, because they help you to loose fat, including fat on your stomach.

It is also important not to exaggerate the stomach exercises. If you do so, you can end up with thick abdominal muscles that make your stomach look fat.

SUPPLEMENTS

On the market you can find supplements of fibres, minerals, vitamin and probiotics that are meant to increase your fat or sugar burning, regulate your digestion or stimulate tissue development. Such supplements may be of use to loose stomach fat and stimulate the strengthening of your stomach muscles.

Anesthesia Intubation

Anesthesia Intubation

Anesthesia Intubation
Wisdom teeth/intubation/admission question?

Ok, I'm having all four of my wisdom teeth removed in a couple of weeks. I was told that I would be intubated under general anesthesia for the surgery (I have VERY bad asthma and the surgeon felt this was safest). So, two questions. One, will it be a nasal intubation or a mouth intubation, and two, will I have to be admitted overnight?

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. Ideally they anesthesia will be nasal to free up the mouth to remove the teeth. It is smart of your Oral Surgeon to suggest this as this is best for all. Typically you go home about 2-3 hours after if there are not any issues and you breathing is fine. Good luck to you and you will glad to have this done this way. You will be sore, but have little memory. ALSO, follow post op directions carefully and do not rinse or spit or suck on a straw for the frist 24 hours. Eat lots of cool and sold foods to help swelling. USE ice packs, 20 minutes on, 20 off for the first few hours. Remember to take it easy for 3-4 days and rest. Watch the foods for 5-7 days. Nothing chewy, sticky, spicy or hard. Sleep with an extra pillow the first few days. DON'T sleep will the gauze in your mouth. AND very important, 3-4 warm salt rinses aday for a week. This will promote healing and help dislodge any food that gets sruck. You will be fine. ~M

Your Must-know Guide to Weight-loss Surgery

Of all the topics I write about, weight-loss surgery is by far the most difficult for me. I like to consider myself a “survivor” of a recent Gastric Bypass surgery nightmare, a nightmare that I never seem to wake up from, and one I want to keep my readers from ever having to live through.

I had Gastric Bypass surgery seven years ago and three more related surgeries since. I’m scheduled for a forth later this year to repair a hernia along the incision line and to try and resolve the matter of reoccurring ulcers due to staple line leakage.

I want to spare you the nightmare of not only the physical anguish you may likely go through, but the mental torture as well. You see, should you have problems resulting from your surgery, it is extremely difficult to find a surgeon willing to go back in and operate to correct another’s mistakes. Most surgeons do not consider it worth the risk.

In fact, when I had a complete break down of my staple line from the original surgery, it took more than a year to find a doctor willing to help me. During this time, acid leakage from my old stomach nearly ate a whole through my new stomach causing the most excruciating pain you could imagine.

I vomited several times a day and got so dehydrated and sick that I had to have a permanent line inserted into my veins to administer fluids and pain medication at home. I was a walking zombie most of the time and life became very, very close to one no longer worth living.

The sad part of this whole matter though, is the fact that I wasn’t obese or even a good candidate for the surgery. I was no more than fifty pounds over weight at the time but vanity got the best of me.

If you look hard enough, you can always find someone willing to do what’s best for their bank account and turn a blind eye to what’s best for your heath. I found such a person and have been paying for that fateful decision ever since.

The irony of it all is that before I had gained my weight, which is a natural and common occurrence as we age and have children, I always thought my very best attribute was my rock solid, and very sexy stomach. A stomach I had long lost site of and very much wanted back.

After my surgery, I did lose the weight but the scar was absolutely hideous. Add three more surgeries to the same area and the subsequent muscle loss and added scar tissue, and a bikini is forever out of the question!

It goes so much further, however, than vanity for me these days. I am always in pain and gripped with the fear of yet another surgery. I nearly died after my first revision because of a lung infection from the anesthesia. I was intubated for two weeks and suffered permanent memory loss because of oxygen deprivation.

I hope that I have at least “scared” you enough to do some research into weight-loss surgery, BEFORE you go under the knife. It is a decision that may haunt you for the rest of your life and one that should not be made in haste or because of vanity.

If your health is at risk, I understand how lucky we all are to have options in this day and age and this radical surgery cold certainly save your life and drastically increase your quality of living. But please explore your options and do your research.

A point about research, though. You need to find an independent source for your information. The problem with this lies in the fact that the people who know the most about weight-loss surgery are those that actually perform it. It certainly would not be in their best interest to advise you against something that is responsible for the large majority of their income, and I do not blame them one bit for not focusing on the negative side of this issue. I am certainly not implying any wrong doing and have amazing faith actually in our overall health care system, but you need the complete and unbiased story.

I would like to point you to the only source I have found for quality information that is neither biased nor incomplete. In fact, I believe that this information should become required reading for anyone considering any type of weight-loss surgery. You owe it to yourself and to those who love you to get this valuable information…information that could save your life.

Resume Makeover - Improve Your Resume With A 5-Point Makeover

Does your resume break mirrors and have dogs barking? Alright, so it's ugly. You can live with that. But if it's also failing to generate job interviews, something has to give. Let's take a fresh look at that old resume, and see if it can't be tweaked into better shape. Here's help in the form of a 5-point resume makeover.

_____

Got a resume that's a beast? Does it need a leash when you take it out of the house? Maybe it's time to consider a resume makeover. After all, creating a good first impression is pretty much what a resume is all about. If yours isn't doing that, it's not doing its job.

I've compiled five key things you can do to quickly improve your resume, creating a better look and a better first impression of this most important document - and thereby increasing the odds of an interview invitation.

Resume Makeover - 5-Points To A Better Looking Resume

1 - Lose the self-centered objective. If the first line of your resume objective reads like: "To work for a company offering advancement opportunities and salary commensurate with..." you are dead to every hiring manager in the free world. Replace that self-centered objective with something that hints at your worth to the company. Something like: "Position as Territory Manager to advance a proven track record for identifying new business opportunities and delivering bottom line results."

2 - Drop-kick the mundane job descriptions. If you're a Registered Nurse, we don't need to hear that you dress patients' wounds, hook up IVs and maintain charts. The basic stuff is a given. We do need you to tell us the degree of your responsibility ("Charge Nurse on a Medical-Surgical Unit with supervisory responsibility for a staff of 5"). And we do need to know any achievements of note ("Served as Preceptor for new employees." "Selected to teach IV Therapy Program to nursing students and EMT-A's" "Member of Code Blue Team.").

3 - Organize info - especially accomplishments - into bulleted lists. Big blocks of text are difficult to read. And when a hiring official has to plow through 300 resumes, you do not want yours to be difficult to read. Lead off a section with a sentence or two, then organize the balance of information in a bulleted list. That creates white space, and makes comprehension of that data far more likely and pleasant.

4 - Pick out and highlight those qualifications, skills and accomplishments that speak to the position you're seeking. If you're been in retail sales all your life but are seeking a job in management, you'll want to point out not only that you increased counter sales 150% of quota but that you "Set up and organized stock room and new store-wide filing system, and were "Selected to assist in new store opening, with accountability for stocking and merchandising."

5 - Cut the clutter. If you've been to college, drop any mention of high school and elementary school. Scrap the dates on college extracurricular activities. Remove mention of any hobbies, sports and interests. Relegate professional references to a separate sheet. Indeed, if you're pressed for space, you don't even need the sentence "References Available Upon Request" at the bottom of the resume. It does make a nice closing statement and signals to the reader that he or she has reached the end of the resume. But if your resume needs to be de-cluttered, it's expendable.

And that glamour photo in the upper right had corner? OK, if you've got a photo on your resume, here's what you do. First, send a copy to your mother. She'll appreciate it. Now feed the rest of those photo resumes through the shredder.

I know it's tough. But better you than the hiring official.

What can/can't I dissect in high school in the UK?

I'm a student teacher and my technician in school doesn't want me doing any practicals of the nature. The kids love them and really learn from them. I've done a heart but am keen to do other dissections- does anyone know what I can and, more importantly, can't do? I'm in the UK in Wales.

Teachers are a big "no, no" in the dissection department, apart from staff aged over 55 for some strange reason????

Learning to Think: Part One - All Students Can Learn to be Mindful

Summer is quickly coming to an end, and school has begun for many children. School buses are busily picking up students and dropping them off during the morning and evening commutes. With the beginning of a new school year, I thought it would be helpful to look into the realm of education and the way our students think and learn.

For most students in the general education population today, the focus of education is on their ability to think and use problem solving skills. We are seeing more and more schools moved towards integrated curricula that teach children math, reading, and writing skills in a more dynamic fashion. A majority of these curricula pose real world problems that students work through and solve as they learn concepts along the way. For many children, this type of curricula proves to be beneficial; for others however, it can be very challenging. For example, children who struggle with reading typically have greater difficulty using curricula formatted in this fashion, since most of it is comprised of written language that needs to be read, dissected, and understood in order to progress through the problem at hand. For these individuals, accommodations to the curricula are usually made to make it easier for the child to understand and process.

When thinking about children with more significant disabilities like cognitive impairments, neurological issues, or Autism, we typically see educators using curricula of a more static nature. These types of curricula tend to be more repetitive. I wonder though: How are these types of materials preparing children for the real world, given that these students typically have the greatest amount of difficulty in the realm of problem solving and creative thinking?

As a teacher of children with severe multiple disabilities, I found myself in an interesting predicament several years back. How was I going to prepare my students to be active participants in the community? Reading books and doing worksheets was not going to cut it. My students needed to learn how to think and be mindful of their surroundings. I decided to take a developmental approach to their learning, and to provide as many opportunities during the day for my students to think and process information. I threw out all of the extras I had plugged into our day, and gave myself and my staff the time that was needed to help our students become mindful. One of the greatest challenges that I faced was getting out of the rut of doing the same thing day in and day out. I had to do so much more thinking in order to plan activities that would allow my students the opportunity to do their own thinking as well. Here are the first few of several modifications and suggestions that I will be sharing with you over the next few months:

  • Stop asking so many questions! I found myself constantly asking my students questions like “What color is this?” I used such questions to gauge their understanding of what I was teaching; but, I found that they were responding to my static questions in their own static way. Static questions, do not offer opportunities for idea sharing or comparing and contrasting. With this knowledge in mind, think about the questions that you ask. Can you change those questions to more open-ended statements? Instead of “What color is this?” you could say to a student “I forget the name of this color.” With a more open-ended statement like this, you will be opening the door for more dynamic dialogue and social interaction.
  • Slow down and let your students think! With the demands on today’s teachers, it is tough to consider slowing down—especially when you have so much to cover in such a short period of time. I must say, however, that they old saying is true: “Slow down to speed up”. By giving your students time to process information, you allow them to think and problem solve on their own. If they can make their own discovery about a topic area, it will be so much more meaningful to them than if they had been told what to do or how to fix the problem. All children have the ability to think and conduct problem solving on their own at their appropriate learning level; but they need to be allowed to have the time to do it, and they need to feel supported in the learning process.

By allowing my students to think about the topic we were studying and providing them more opportunities for open-ended dialogue, I found that my students were learning and thinking about so many different things in their environment. It was wonderful to discover how much of an impact I could make on the learning process of my students and their quality of life now and in the future. See what amazing things can happen when you make little changes like these!

You're probably well aware just how wonderful, deep, thorough, gentle, powerful (I could go on) homeopathy is, but did you know that not only can you receive wonderfully effective treatment from a professional homeopath, you can also use homeopathic remedies in the comfort of your own home?

Home prescribing is, naturally, limited to the less complicated ailments. But there's a tremendous amount you can do at home.

Lets look at what some of the common homeopathic remedies can do, those that you'll find in most first aid or common ailment kits.

Isn't that an impressive list? And it's by no means exhaustive. Imagine the satisfaction of being able to treat a painful ear in the middle of the night. No one wants to be dragged out of bed for an endless wait in hospital, only to be given a drug which may knock you out, but leaves you feeling drugged in the morning and hasn't resolved the cause, anyway.

Homeopathic remedies only work if you have selected the right one for the job. If you have selected the wrong one, nothing happens. You can't do yourself any harm.

Isn't that just a fabulous concept? If you get the wrong remedy nothing happens, if you select the right remedy, the problem just melts away. It's as if it was never there. Newbies to homeopathy can be forgiven for feeling that - did I really have that pain? - because there are no after effects.

So how do you know which remedy to select for which problem?

Well, apart from the instructions which come with every kit, there are books you can purchase. I love books and learn a lot from them. But sometimes it's nice to have a person to chat to, or a personal view, or an anecdote to relate to.

Subscribing to a regular eletter will keep you plugged in to thinking in the way you need to. Believe me, using homeopathic remedies is not like using typical over-the-counter drugs. You do need to know a bit.

And I can guarantee you won't always make the right choice, you won't always be able to make a difference. But the feeling of elation when you do is worth all the waiting,

I well remember my first success story. It was when I was a homeopathic student. One of my cats became ill and stopped eating. A veterinarian diagnosed kidney failure and gave her, in effect, a death sentence.

I dug out my newly purchased box of homeopathic remedies and a book I'd recently bought. It only took me about five minutes to reach a conclusion. I'll never forget what happened after I gave her just one dose. She walked into the kitchen, demanding food! Was that sweet or what?

She lived another three, healthy years after that.

AP Biology Lab 4: Plant PIgments and Photosynthesis?

Anyone know the functions of the cuvettes? I already know that the first one is the blank to be used to recalibrate the instrument between readings. What about the other 4?

cuvette 2: to observe the rate of photosynthesis without the presence of light
cuvette 3: to observe the rate of photosynthesis with light (normal process)
cuvette 4: to observe the rate of photosynthesis in chloroplasts that have been boiled (denatured)
cuvette 5: control variable (i think?)

Ultrasonic Cleaners: The Versatile And Thorough Way To Keep Lab Equipment Clean

Scientific and Laboratory Ultrasonic Cleaners An ultrasonic cleaner in your laboratory will save time and reduce effort while providing a safe solution for your cleaning needs. Let's take a look at some considerations you should keep in mind when using an ultrasonic cleaner on glassware, plasticware, and your lab instruments.

Whether you are cleaning beakers, bottles, vials, pipettes, or other labware, laboratory ultrasonic cleaners eliminate the time and effort of manual scrubbing. In fact, studies have shown that it can be up to 60 times faster while delivering thoroughly clean results. In addition, ultrasonic cleaning reaches into crevices and small openings that can’t be cleaned manually. Cleanliness of laboratory vessels and instruments is critical, as any residue from a prior laboratory procedure may contaminate the next experiment, test, or process.

Always wash glassware immediately after use.  If this is not possible, allow the glassware to soak. There is a possibility that if the glass is not cleaned immediately some residues will be impossible to remove. Never soak for long periods in alkaline solutions, as this will damage the glass. When using an ultrasonic cleaner, place the glassware in a basket so that the objects do not come in contact with the bottom of the tank, the vibrating ultrasonic membrane. After the ultrasonic labware cleaning stage is finished, rinse with distilled or deionized water rather than tap water. This will ensure that your items will dry completely and without spots. Finally, inspect the glassware to ensure that there are no cracks or chips, as this can affect future tests and samples.

Certain types of cleaning chemicals such as highly alkaline detergents can lead to clouding, crazing or stress cracking of plasticware, particularly polycarbonate. Long periods of exposure to strong oxidising agents are also known to cause plasticware to become brittle and prone to failure. For this reason, you should not use strong cleaning agents on plasticware. You should also never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads which scratch the surface of plasticware. For ultrasonic cleaning lab plasticware, the same rules apply as glassware. Make sure to place the items in a basket to ensure they do not touch the ultrasonic membrane and rinse with distilled or deionized water after cleaning.

It should be noted that labware contaminated with biohazardous materials should be disposed of safely. In the event that it is to be cleaned, an autoclave should be employed. Since many of your lab instruments are delicate, the key is to deliver fast, thorough results without causing damage. Ultrasonic lab equipment cleaning is the perfect solution since cavitation is very gentle while cleaning the entire surface. An ultrasonic cleaner is very effective for cleaning lab tools, microscopy parts, embedded samples, specimen mounts, etc. Like glassware and plasticware, they should be rinsed with deionized water so that they dry properly.

As you can see, the versatile capabilities of a laboratory ultrasonic cleaner make it the perfect solution for your lab. It is ideal for ultrasonic cleaning labware, both glass and plastic, and gentle enough to clean your delicate instruments. You can avoid the harshness of strong alkaline solutions that can damage glass and plastic as well as the scrubbing that can cause scratches.  You will also reduce cleaning time, energy, as well as the risks involved with manual cleaning.

What are or can be the daily/weekly routines of a school work experience student in a dental surgery?

1. In the Freshman year you go to classes, and take exams. Depending on which school you attend you may have to take lab courses (e.g., work on models, mannequins or learn computer simulation techniques).

2. In the Sophomore year you again go to classes, take exams. In this year you also take the Part I NAtional Board Exam. So, you have to study for that on top of the exams in the class. You most likely have to continue the practical classes.

3. In the Junior year you still attend some classes, and take exams. However, you start seeing patients in the clinics and also do rotations at different departments. Some schools also have community service requirements these days. You have to do a lot of lab work. For the clinical requirements YOU will have to maintain the patient schedule and will have to make the reminder calls yourself. On many occasions you have to worry about insurance coverage, collections and billing out. Even if those things are not done directly by you, you need to check on that in order to get the credit for the procedure performed / to meet the graduation requirments.

4. In the Senior year you continue the same, but you gradually get done with the classes, your clinical rotations / requirements and lab work increase. In this year you have to take the Part II of the National Board Exam. Also, towards the end of the year you have to take the Licensing exam which has a theoretical and practical components.

The key to success is in being highly organized.

Good luck !!

Just like our parents taught us, there's a time and a place for everything. And farting is no different. While guys can be forward and direct and just let 'em rip and talk about them (instead of feelings) for hours, for women, farting is an entirely different beast. So pay attention here, ladies, Farty Frieda is here to provide you with an invaluable lesson on letting the ass gas go.

As we all continue to learn and grow from others, it truly is my pleasure to share the secrets I've picked up from my variety of lovely lady friends when it comes to finding the right time, place and method to letting your trouser coughs go in front of loved ones new and old.  For me, my best first air biscuit in front of a loved one came when I was in the hospital – farting is the first sign that your body is working again after going under for surgery. It was a new relationship and for sure the best ice breaker. But we're not all so (un)lucky to have a funny story like that.

Take my younger sister (please!) – she's your average college kid, always has a date on Friday and Saturday nights, straight A student. But she can't fart in front of anyone: mom, dad, boyfriends, cousins and she even blames the dog when she lets off an ass rocket. But she has owned a few choice bombs in her history after having her third glass of Pinot. For her, being connected to a fart is truly a feat worse than wearing white after Labor Day. But it sure is funny when her blush isn't just from the vino. I keep telling her that the best way to release the butt hounds is to do it silently and have fun with it: hug a family member, let it slide then blame them! But no, she insists on excusing herself, walking to the restroom and releasing there. Or at a family barbecue, walking to the other side of the house. She might as well just carry a can of room spray she's so polite.

For other hens in the house, subtlety is completely lost and they'd just rather take the fall for the rump shaker. Like my mom. Mom loves tushie trivia: Like finding the source of the gas leak in the house, she enjoys figuring out just what she ate that's responsible for the assignation. Was it the tacos? The milk? The coffee? It's like fart-accompanied multiple-choice exams. But fun. Her rumblers are less entertainment and more trivia, and it's a great way to take the focus off the stench when the answer truly is dairy related.

Then there's me, Farty Frieda. It used to be just Frieda. But like all good things, I like to take personal ownership of the tasks I've mastered, and farting is most certainly one of them. I name them: Dairy Doozies, Flame Throwers, Green Fogs, Lingerer, Loud But Proud, Machine Gunners and Singing Elephants. My theory is that the best way to let 'em fly is to just own it. Be proud!

So whether you're hush-hush about the puffers, inquisitive about the source of the leak or you wear your stink bombs like a badge of pride, farting for women is truly a reflection of our personalities.
