what does an Ophthalmology Retina person do? are you actualy doing surgury please describe in detail?

An ophthalmologist who is a retinal specialist is an expert on retinal pathologies and would also have the expertise to physically manipulate the retina and operate deep into the eye. Retinal problems are an entire subset of the ophthalmological medical field and from what I have noticed there are not enough retinal specialists out there. Their work is more complicated in my opininion and they are almost always overworked.

How did Las Vegas Casinos increase security after 9/11? (Multiple choice question)?

Hey this is part of my exam study guide and I can't find the answer....if you're pretty sure of the answer please answer!!

a.) Trained security cameras on the area outside of casinos.
b.) allowed casino security personnel to carry concealed weapons.
c.) utilized retinal scan technology when entering a casino
d.) utilized fingerprint recognition software on all patrons entering a casino

Thanks!

A and b are both correct, although b has always been the case, although not all casino employees carry a weapon, there have always been some that have, this number has just increased. c and d have not happened and probably wont ever happen.

Cataract is a cloudy or opaque area in the lens of the eye. Cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. The lens works much like a camera lens, focusing light onto the retina at the back of the eye. The lens also adjusts the eye's focus, letting us see things clearly both up close and far away. Most cataracts are related to aging. Cataracts are very common in older people. A doctor of naturopathy gave this advice about eating natural foods in the process. That will help bring the vitreous fluid into better condition and change the peculiar condition of the eye lens. The following treatment of the eye can help patients to cure of their cataract.

Clouded vision can make it more difficult to read, drive a car especially at night or see the expression on a friend's face. In fact, they are the leading cause of visual loss among adults 55 and older. Eye injuries, certain medications, and diseases such as diabetes and alcoholism have also been known to cause cataracts. Sometimes, protein clumps together, clouding small areas of the lens and blocking some light from reaching the retina. Some researches find that regular exercises can help people to reduce their stresses. People are suggested to do some exercises every week. If they are really very busy, they should at least have a jog. There is a good method for the health of eyes. People should expose themselves to the sunlight for some short time with their eyes closed. This is because; light can stimulate the vitality of eyes. The most important thing is people should learn how much work they can handle and refuse some unnecessary tasks.

The operation is considered low risk, the pain is minimal, and recovery time is normally short. The patient can leave straight after the operation and can expect complete healing, in around 10 - 11 weeks. Laser surgery is one way of removing cataracts. Laser surgery for cataract is still experimentally tested. It utilizes light instead of ultrasound in dissolving cataract. LASEK and LASIK processes fall in laser surgery category. Due to its low cost and also its affinity, polymethylmethacrylate PMMA is widely used to replace the cataract lens. A softer and more expensive one is the silicon acrylate which can be folded and inserted into the eye through a smaller incision. It's specially recommended for those with a history of uvetus or at risky stage of retinal detachment. There is also the latest approved multifocal intraocular lens implants which enables most post operative cataract patients the advantage of glass free vision and they are costly too, can rise up to $1500 per eye. But then one's eye is very precious, it's worth the amount spent indeed.

An important factor in cataract prevention is drinking water. Drink lots of filtered water; avoid fluoridated and chlorinated water. Eliminate dairy products and saturated fats, which promote the formation of free radicals and can damage the lens. Use only cold-pressed oils. Medical journals report an association between cigarettes and cataracts, probably because smoking generates free radicals.

What's the difference between Optometry and Ophthalmology?

I need to see one or the other but I'm not sure what the difference is.

Optometrists (Optometry) are people who are trained to fit you for glasses. they are not doctors.

Ophthalmologists (Ophthalmology) are doctors. they can prescribe medicines, do surgeries, and are generally much more educated than Optometrists.

We all want to find the best doctor available to us when we have a = medical=20 problem of any kind. But, what does this really mean? The bottom line is = that=20 the best doctor for you is the one who is the most qualified to help you = and=20 treat your condition while making you feel the most comfortable. = Ophthalmology=20 is the branch of medicine that deals with diseases and surgery of the = visual=20 pathways including the eyes, brain, and areas surrounding each eye as = such as=20 the lacrimal (tear) system and the eyelids. The word =93ophthalmology=94 = comes from=20 the Greek root words =93ophthalmos=94 meaning =93eye=94 and =93logos=94 = meaning =93word,=20 thought, or discourse.=94 So the word literally means =93the science of = eyes.=94 Since=20 ophthalmologists perform operations on the eyes, they are classified as=20 physicians and surgeons. An ophthalmic surgeon is a medical doctor = who=20 specializes in the medical and surgical care and treatment of conditions = and=20 diseases of the eye. Some ophthalmologists also provide general vision = care=20 services which include prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses.

General ophthalmology may be just the beginning of>

There are many reasons due to one has to visit an eye clinic. One can = visit=20 an eye=20 clinic for cataract. A cataract is formed when the natural lens of = the eye,=20 responsible for focusing light and producing sharp images, becomes = cloudy and=20 hardens, resulting in a loss of visual function. People suffering from = cataract=20 are not only adults, but children also suffer from cataract. So, there = are=20 different types of cataract treatments, cataract treatment for adults = and paediatric cataract = treatment. =20 People visit the eye clinic for corneal = diseases also.=20 The cornea is the main refracting surface of optical system of an eye. = There are=20 a lot of corneal disorders, but most of it includes the fact that the = corneal=20 stroma (the middle part of the cornea) develops visualy significant = opacity,=20 iregularity or edema. The corneal treatment is possible through cornea=20 transplantation. The corneal disorders treatment is = also=20 possible by stem cell transplantation or amniotic membrane = transplantation.=20 Glaucoma is one of the eye diseases which lead to blindness. It becomes = very=20 necessary to visit the eye hospital for glaucoma = treatment in=20 the intial stage of this disease. The optometrists at an eye clinic can = diagnose=20 and treat eye diseases and give you a better chance at preserving sight. = Early=20 detection of any eye disorder at an eye hospital is the best chance that = anyone=20 can have at treating the disease. Many people would agree that sight is = probably=20 our most precious sense. Unfortunately, in most cases, sight is = impossible to=20 recover, even when it is only partially lost. So, it is very necessary = to take=20 care of the precious eyes by going for treatment of eyes regularly. Some = people=20 are blind by birth, they need cornea transplant. Corneal=20 transplantation can be done only after cornea donation, the = important part=20 of the eye anatomy.

There is lot of controversy relating to eye donation. Someone can see = this=20 colorful world through your eyes even after your death. You can enrich a = visually impaired individual=92s life, a precious gift without costing = you=20 anything. Retrieval of corneal tissue from a dead person is not an = offence=20 unless the person has openly declared on a public platform that his eyes = should=20 not be removed after death. Earlier position on the subject was that a = person=20 had to pledge his cornea and the relatives gave the consent for = retrieval of=20 corneal tissues after the death of individuals.

Dr. Abhay R Vasavada, a renowned ophthalmic surgeon in India = with twenty=20 five years of dedicated practice behind him, is the Medical and Research = Director of Raghudeep Eye Clinic. Raghudeep Eye Clinic is a premiere eye=20 care center in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Their treatment services = include=20 adult cataract, pediatric cataract, corneal disorders treatment, corneal = transplantations, cornea diseases research, stem cell transplantation, = amniotic membrane = transplantation,=20 glaucoma examinations, glaucoma surgeries, glaucoma laser surgeries, = glaucoma=20 research activities, direct ophthalmoscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, = visual=20 acuity assessment, optometry services, anaesthesia. This center is also = an eye=20 donation center in India , which is dedicated towards eye banking = and eye=20 donation services.

Raghudeep Eye Clinic -a ophthalmic hospital in India = and Iladevi=20 Cataract and IOL Research Centre are affiliated with S K Red Cross Eye = hospital,=20 Dholka town. This clinic is into all kinds of eye treatments and eye = surgeries=20 after deep research and training. So, if you are searching for an ophthalmologist for eye = diseases, this=20 clinic is the best place for you where a dedicated team of = ophthalmologists,=20 anesthetists, scientists and paramedics are committed towards the = progress of=20 the institute.

Dr. Abhay R Vasavada, a renowned ophthalmic surgeon with twenty = five=20 years of dedicated practice behind him, is the Medical and Research = Director of=20 Raghudeep Eye Clinic - a ophthalmic hospital in India.

Lasers are widely used in optometry because light can reach almost any internal eye structure almost without offense. The first use of light in optometry can be dated back to 1946 when a German ophthalmologist Gerd Meyer-Schwickerath used light to coagulate human retinal tissue. He sealed off retinal tears with the light of a xenon arc lamp producing tiny burns in the retina. This technique revolutionized the world of optometry. After the first laser was demonstrated in 1960 by Theodore Maiman, it quickly became an efficient tool in the field of corrective eye treatment. Today's technology has made it possible to develop a wide variety of lasers, each with its own technical specifications and use. There are the five most common kinds of lasers used in optometry: YAG laser, excimer laser, microkeratome femtosecond laser, Krypton lasers and argon laser.

The YAG laser, one of the most common types of lasers, is a solid-state laser used in various fields like ophthalmology. YAG lasers have a 1054 mm wavelength and can be operated in pulsed mode as well as continuous mode. The most common eye surgeries in which the YAG laser is used are cataract surgery and peripheral iridotomy. YAG lasers with frequencies of 532mm wavelengths are used for photocoagulation.

The excimer laser is probably the most widely used kinds of lasers in optometry. Instead of burning through matter, excimer lasers shoot out energy that breaks apart the molecular bonds of the eye's surface tissue. These molecules thus disintegrate into the air, and there is no burning involved. Excimer lasers can remove incredibly thin layers of eye material without impacting the remaining tissue. So these types of lasers are often used in precision surgeries.

The microkeratome laser is designed to forego the blade and use ultrashort-pulse femtosecond lasers to make the cut instead, which can minimize risks inherent in the microkeratome blade method. The microkeratome is a mechanical shaver that cuts a very thin flap out of the exterior layer of the cornea to allow for laser surgery.

The Krypton laser is a kind of gas laser using krypton ions in combination with electronic discharges, which is commonly used to treat macular degeneration, a disease that shows up often in the group of elderly people and results in the loss of a central field of vision due to a damaged retina.

The argon laser discovered by William R. Bennett can be emitted at various wavelengths in the ultraviolet spectrum. They commonly used in retinal phototherapy procedures. Diabetic patients often suffer from diabetic retinopathy. Argon lasers are used for panretinal photocoagulation to prevent retinopathy from further damage. They are also used in treating open-angle glaucoma.
