How long is Obstetrics/Gynecology Medical Residency?

I would love to know how long (years) Medical Residencies are depending on specialty:

Obstetrics/Gynecology (My Interest)
Family Medicine & General Practice
Pediatrics
Anesthesiology
Psychiatry
Surgical

From your question it sounds like you are not already in medical school (if you are you should really be talking to your dean!!)
so here is how it goes in the US, (it is very different in Europe)
after you graduate high school you have to get a Bachelor's degree (usually 4 years)
then you go to medical school for 4 more years
then residency depending on the field:
OB/GYN: 4 years
Family Medicine: 3 years
Internal Medicine: 3 years
Pediatrics: 3 years
Anesthesiology: 4 years (1 year internship + 3 years)
Psychiatry: 4 years
General Surgery: 5 years
-there are also some surgical fields which are separate like Orthopedic Surgery (5 years), Neurosurgery (6-7 years)

Lot of these fields have sub-specialties (fellowship) that you can do afterwards usually 1 or 2 years.

Good luck

Gynaecology or gynecology refers to the surgical specialty dealing with health of the female reproductive system. Gynaecology is typically considered a consultant specialty.

The gynecological problems encountered in children and adolescents are often both medically and psychologically complex and thus require a highly skilled and coherent approach. The adolescent, who is no longer a child but not quite an adult, poses a particular management problem to the traditional specialties.

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology includes all aspects of clinical and basic science research in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, as well as molecular biology research as applied to the field. The Journal draws in expertise from a variety of disciplines including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, reproduction and gynecology, reproductive and pediatric endocrinology, genetics, and molecular biology.

In the field of adolescent gynecology more than anywhere else, the medical attitude is often striking by its extremes: from a seemingly indifferent 'wait-andsee' policy (true indifference or ignorance?) to an overzealous interventionism – and this at a developmental moment requiring great sensitivity and tact.

Pediatric adolescent gynecologists:

Importance of adolescent gynecology:

Adolescents:
For adolescents, the first gynecologic examination provides a golden opportunity to educate young patients about the breast and pelvic exam, to answer questions about development, and to provide medical reassurances and information about issues of health and sexuality. The Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology provides abstinence counseling, as well as contraceptive counseling and pregnancy prevention strategies. Adolescents especially may benefit from counseling about the risks of sexual activity and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Physician:
Division Director Dr Elizabeth Poynor, MD, PhD is considered a national expert in this field, and provides training in pediatric and adolescent gynecology for other physicians. She has received advanced training in the subspecialty practice of pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

infection after giving birth?

i gave birth on monday by forceps delivery and had an episiotomy, since then i am in agony but its not were the stitches are, the pain is around my clitoris and top of labia. it feels like someone is holding a lighter on it constantly or cutting of my labia with scissors and when i make even the slightest bit i could scream. i am walking with my legs together and dragging my feet along. the midwife didnt say anything til yesterday and she said my bleeding was a bit foul smelling so may be an infection and prescribed co-amoxiclav for 7 days and not to use any creams or antiseptic. its really getting me down coz i struggle to stand up to get my baby or sit down when feeding her. i feel like this is the best time of my life with my new little girl and yet i cant be happy til this pain is away. any1 else experienced this and if so what would u recommend i do to ease the pain?

Please go to your doctor asap. I also had a forceps delivery and an episiotomy plus a third degree tear. I developed a very bad infection in my stiches and the infection actually began to dissolve my stitches, leaving me in agony and with an open wound the width of two fingers (sorry about TMI!). I ended up being re-admitted to hospital and was put on IV antibiotics for 24 hours - this happened twice over a two week period and even then I still had to take two different antibiotics for another four weeks afterwards. Infections can be very serious if they are not treated correctly and if you are still in a lot of pain you should definitely get it checked out. Good luck, sweetie.

FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION

Introduction

The follicular unit (FU) was first defined by Headington and the conceptual framework for using FUs in hair transplantation was laid out by Bernstein and Rassman. It became clear to most surgical hair restoration practitioners that the single-strip harvesting and stereomicroscopic dissection techniques developed by Limmer in 1988 were the best way to both harvest and isolate FUs.

Although single-strip harvesting is an extremely efficient means of obtaining tissue for subsequent dissection into FUs, it results in a linear scar. Careful technique with thin donor strips will produce very fine scars, but if the strips are taken too wide, the scar can widen to an unacceptable degree. Covering the donor area with longer hair was the only solution to widened scars, as surgical repairs of these wounds generally proved to be ineffective. As a result, a number of patients became hesitant to undergo a hair transplant procedure that had a potentially difficult-to-treat widened linear scar.

In the mid-1990s, Rassman set out to find a way around this problem by directly extracting FUs from the donor area using a small punch. Early attempts were frustrated by high transection rates in a significant number of patients until Richard Shiell brought the work of Masumi Inaba to his attention.

Inaba"s technique varied slighty, using a similar punch but only partially cutting down on the hair follicle and then removing the remainder with forceps. Inaba"s insight led to Rassman and Bernstein describing follicular unit extraction or the FOX procedure (FOllicular unit eXtraction), outlining an entire surgical hair restoration procedure without strip harvesting

After performing the FOX procedure on patients of various nationalities it became obvious that extraction proved to be quite variable. Histologic analysis was used in an attempt to elucidate the cause of patient variability and the FOX Test was introduced, an important surgical recommendation tool to determine patient candidacy.

Overall results showed that the FOX Test classified approximately 60% of all patients as candidates for the FUE procedure. However, even the good hair transplant candidates had a strong possibility of follicle transection.

Two-Step Technique

This process is comprised of two main steps. In the first step, a sharp 1 mm punch is placed over the follicular unit and aligned to approximate the angle of the hair shafts below the skin surface. A rotational motion of the punch is then used by the hair restoration doctor to cut through the skin and isolate FUs in the epidermis and upper dermis.

For a successful hair transplant procedure, the incident angle of the punch cannot vary much from the hair shaft direction or some, or all, of the hairs in the FU will be transected. Since the hair bulbs in each FU splay outward in the deep dermis and fat, it is also important to limit the depth of the punch to the upper dermis, which proves difficult.

In step two, the extraction, fine rat-toothed forceps are used to apply gentle traction to the top of the FU until the unit is pulled loose from its deep dermal and subcutaneous connections. There is person-to-person variation with this procedure. To help limit variation effects, the technique was refined further, adding dissection when simple extraction proved difficult. If a graft cannot be removed with gentle traction, then the deeper part of the graft is separated from the surrounding tissue through dissection using a fine needle (with a U-shaped tip) while traction is applied with delicate forceps.

With this additional dissection step, percentages of positive FOX patients increased. Despite a significant yield improvement, a large number of hair restoration patients still could not be shifted into "FUE candidacy." In many cases transection rates were still unacceptably high and dissection times for significant cases unacceptably long; the additional step slowed the entire process.

Three-Step Technique

James Harris presented a paper and a new solution at an ISHRS scientific meeting, in which he added an additional third step requiring new instrumentation. In this new three-step hair transplant procedure, a sharp punch is used to score the epidermis (rather than cut through the full thickness to the dermis) and then a dull punch is used (through a back-and-forth twisting motion) to bluntly dissect the FU graft from the surrounding epidermis and dermis .

This variation has several advantages over the original two-step process. Using a dull punch avoids follicle transection and allows intact FUs to be extracted more easily. As the blunt-tipped punch is advanced into the dermis, splayed follicles are "gathered together," avoiding transection. In effect, the dull-punch technique allows a full realization of the "extraction concept" with an easy-to-learn methodology. One untoward result of the three-step technique is a possible higher incidence of buried grafts, as discussed later. In addition, some of the FUs remain tethered to the subcutaneous tissue and require additional dissection.

One great advantage of this addition was that it opens this surgical hair restoration technique to the inherent FOX-negative population: those with very fine hair and those with African kinky hair types. Because the procedure is performed blindly, visualization is no longer an issue, potentially increasing yield for those with hard-to-see gray hair. In addition, it appears that this FUE modification has applicability for corrective procedures, removing FUs inside old plugs.

Indications for FUE have evolved considerably. Initially, FUE was limited to FOX-positive patients (that showed minimal transection) and in those in which the size of the balding area matched the surgical team"s ability to perform the procedure in an acceptable time frame - essentially small procedures in select patients. With improved techniques, Rassman reported his largest case yet in 2004: 1903 FUs performed exclusively with the original two-step technique. Harris" modification should allow these large sessions in a greater number of hair transplantation patients.

Nuances of three-step technique

Although the three-step technique is easier to master than the two-step technique, there are certain factors that will increase its efficiency and success.

Because the subcutaneous course of follicles cannot be ascertained with great accuracy, "scoring" incisions should be limited to a depth of between 1.3 mm and 1.5 mm (approximately the level of the end of the bevel on a standard 1 mm Miltex punch) to decrease the risk of inadvertent transection. However, in hair transplant patients whose follicles are slightly longer, scoring incision depths may be increased by 0.1-0.2 mm. This increase should facilitate insertion of the "dissecting" punch and may decrease the incidence of "buried" grafts.

Even though the use of a blunt punch provides protection for follicles and makes the angle of insertion less critical, follicles may be damaged if the angle is radically different from the follicle"s direction. To prevent damage, scoring incisions can be created, and their angles reassessed to obtain a more accurate estimate of the follicle"s direction and more accurately "aim" the dissecting punch.

Follicle separation from the epidermis and upper dermis at the sebaceous gland may occur during extraction. This phenomenon, which has been called "capping," can be handled in three ways. If the subcutaneous attachment is significant, a second pass with a dissecting punch can be attempted. A second option is to grasp the unit at the sebaceous gland region and pull, applying a slow, steady force. The final option, if standard dissection fails, is to leave the graft in situ and allow the skin to heal by secondary intention.

Since a third step is required in this new hair restoration method, the need for efficiency has increased. Rather than performing each of the three steps for each FU in sequence, a preferred method is to identify an area to be extracted, score 25-50 FUs, dissect each one, and then extract. Assistants may help with dissection and extraction but care must be taken to identify any buried grafts for subsequent retrieval efforts.

The need for tumescence varies from patient to patient, but for the most part, it has been found that tumescence may cause the dermis to become somewhat "mushy" and impede the extraction process. The hair transplant surgeon must make constant assessments of extraction success each step of the way with every patient. Ease of extraction also seems to vary with scalp location. The occipital area tends to be easier while temporal areas may require manual dissection due to a higher degree of tethering.

Management of buried grafts

As previously mentioned, this hair transplantation technique has an inherent possibility of producing buried grafts. Incidence can vary from patient to patient depending on unidentified skin characteristics. It has been observed that in some patients and in some areas (the temples for example), slightly increasing scoring depths decreases the incidence of buried grafts.

When a buried graft is identified, immediately apply pressure around it in an attempt to "force" the graft to the surface. If this maneuver fails, the hair restoration doctor should examine the circular incision to identify the follicle base, a key step in facilitating removal. If the follicle is not visible, use small, curved forceps with the tip directed towards the "superior" aspect of the incision in an attempt to grasp the FU. Owing to punch insertion angles, the incision depth is shallower at the superior aspect of the incision. Grafts often invert at this location by tethering to a nonscored attachment.

If the graft still cannot be located, make a small incision towards the superior aspect to create a larger exploratory opening. If after these steps visualization still eludes the hair transplant surgeon, the graft should be left buried. Exact incidences of graft burial and graft recovery are not available; however, in a 40-patient and approximately 10,000-graft study, only two instances of buried grafts resulted in hair-bearing inflamed cysts requiring removal.

Indications for FUE

FUE is indicated in the following situations:

1. When even a very thin linear scar is unacceptable (i.e. in those who shave their head or wear their hair very short)

2. When a patient requests an FUE procedure and enough grafts can be harvested to meet his or her needs

3. In patients with limited hair loss or those who require small sessions. This group would include patients with androgenetic alopecia in a Norwood Class 3 pattern or those with small vertex balding areas

4. For limited cosmetic areas, such as widow"s peaks, eyebrows, eyelashes, mustaches

5. For limited areas of alopecia secondary to dermatologic conditions

6. In the treatment of widened scars resulting from traditional strip excisions

7. In patients without adequate laxity for a strip excision

8. For scarring from dermatologic conditions, trauma, or neurosurgical procedures

9. For individuals with heavily scarred donor areas making a linear incision problematic

10. In patients who tend to heal with wide or thickened linear scars

11. In athletes who must resume full activity soon after the procedure

12. For patients with an inordinate fear of pain or scars

13. When the body or beard serves as a donor area.

Contraindications for FUE

Contraindications for FUE include:

1. Inexperience in performing FUE techniques

2. Unavailability of proper instrumentation

3. Inadequate and uninformed patient consent

4. Unrealistic patient expectations

5. Inadequate donor supply

6. Scarring that makes both the two- and three-step procedures problematic.

Conclusion

FUE is an exciting advancement that propels the field of hair transplant surgery one step closer to the elite minimally invasive status. The promise of an almost scarless surgery is enticing to both patient and surgeon. For the hair restoration doctor who has to perform this tedious technique, there remain many vague issues ranging from ethical representations of patient results to practical realities of surgical indication. Training periods are extensive, risks of less than desirable results are high, and many technical problems have yet to be worked out.

FUE clearly has a valuable place in a growing number of hair transplant candidates. Although the techniques have improved, issues of patient selection, donor area healing by secondary intention after large sessions, and imbedded grafts still remain. The reasons for selecting FUE rather than a strip harvest may be the avoidance of a linear scar, the desire for a virtually pain-free recovery period, or simply the idea of having a minimally invasive procedure.

How to selectively delete custom dictionary in word 2003 without deleting the CUSTOM.DOT (default).?

Hi,
I am a medical transcriptionist and I need US dictionary as well as medical dictionaries of different specialties. To make my work easy I thought it would be apt to add the medical dictionaries i.e medical, surgical, eye, ENT and many other specialty custom dictionaries and I ended up adding 15 of them. Right now, I have 16 of them including US English dictionary, which is CUSTOM.DIC (default). Now since in word one can only use maximum 10 dictionaries, I want to keep only the most important 10 dictionaries including CUSTOM.DIC (default). My problem is that I am not able to select only the medical dictionaries to delete as when I do this the CUSTOM.DIC (default) also gets selected. I do not wish to give it a try and hit the delete button fearing that the CUSTOM.DIC (default) also might get deleted which i do not wish to do. Please guide me stepwise!!!

I just tried this with Word 2002, and I discovered that the limit is on the number of dictionaries Open at one time. Uncheck some so they're not open and they'll still be visible, but not used.

(And I tried using the Remove button and although it deleted the selected dictionary from the list, it left it intact in the Proof directory.)

Hope that helps.

A course of Pancharkarma typically includes a short-term dietary prescription, massage, herbs, and may include purgatives, sweat baths, medicated enemas, and nasal cleansing.

Nasya (Nose Cleaning):

Nasya involves administration of medicated oil through the nose to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region.

Sirodhara:

According to Ayurveda, Sirodhara is the best treatment for diseases of the nervous system and for emotional problems such as chronic depression and anxiety (panic) attacks. It is also recommended for chronic headaches, as well as ear, nose and throat problems, and is especially useful for pain management.

Which is more STRESSFUL, surgical tech or dental assistant?

In my area, both have equal pay, equal schooling, and I am equally interested in both. I am aware of the different schedules for each... all I want to know is, which is more stressful, and WHY?

Either one has the potential to be stressful. Doctors/surgeons are some of the most narcissistic people on earth and are very hard to work for. I think you'll make more and be happier in a dental office.

Teeth are supported and surrounded by tissues. Mouth is a well developed breeding ground for bacteria and thereby infection.

Gums are also great breeding grounds for harmful bacteria. Problem arises when gums are attacked by harmful bacteria, resulting in severe infection. This type of infection is termed as Periodontitis. It is actually, inflation of gums. When neglected, Periodontitis may lead to Gingivitis, a much severe gum disease.

Gum diseases start when teeth are not cleaned properly after every meal. This leads to formation of yellow covering on a tooth that hardens into tartar in due course of time. Tartar can be cleaned only under strict medical supervision.

Periodontal disease is related to infection of tissues and bones surrounding the tooth. If left untreated, then it results in loss of tooth, due to loosening of tooth inside the surrounding infected tissues.

Initial Periodontitis is low grade in infection where good quality tooth brush with regular cleaning will also not provide necessary relief. The amount of tartar formed around the tooth is much more then desired level. The bacteria in calulus start producing toxins and harmful sulphur compounds to destroy bone structure and subsequently gums around the tooth. Sulphur compounds also produce bad breath inside the mouth. Periodontal pocket bacteria make a reservoir in this pocket (space between tooth and gums) causing further infections.

When the space between tooth and gums reaches up to a depth of 5mm, this is termed as Modest Periodontitis Disease.

The next worst stage is Extreme Periodontitis where pockets between gums and tooth get further deep to reach 6mm depth. In this case, the only treatment is surgery.

Surgical treatment means removal of infected or diseased tissues. Dentists clean the structure thoroughly, so that it is no longer a breeding ground for plaque or tartar.

In extreme Periodontitis, bone structure is also infected, and then bone grafting is only solution. Untreated tooth will lead to loss of tooth due to destruction of supporting bone. The process is very gradual but created deep impact in mouth. Therefore it needs immediate attention.

Precaution is better than cure. Therefore take proper care of your teeth to prevent Periodontitis Disease.

What is the cost of Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery ?

Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost of Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery in India. One of the most frequently asked questions when considering Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery is "how much?" and “what is the price of surgery in India?”

Oftentimes, patients choose their surgeon on the basis of price.
The cost of Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery is very affordable in India and costs are much lower when compared to the United States, UK and other countries. However, since the success of your surgery is largely dependent on your choice of surgeon, cost should not be your main consideration for your decision to undergo Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery in India.

I checked out the website of Forerunners Healthcare –which is the premier most medical tourism company in India offering low cost surgery in India to International Patients. They have served more than 400 International patients from across the globe (specially US and UK) to get low cost affordable surgery in India at the best Hospitals and Medical Institutions. And the general price of the Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery is as follows-

The Cost of Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery in India is $ 1,500.

http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com

In India, any licensed medical doctor can perform Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery. To avoid unsatisfactory results, it is best to choose a surgeon who has completed an accredited residency-training program in Crow's Feet Wrinkle Removal - Surgical surgery. He should have extensive experience in the procedure you will undergo. That’s when Forerunners Healthcare come into picture-helping you get the best surgeon for your surgery at the most affordable prices in the best Hospitals of India.

Your surgeon's skill can make all the difference between a good and an average result. Thus, although it is understandable that price is one of the considerations in your choice of surgeon, it is important to remember that the main consideration should be your surgeon's professional qualifications and experience.

Besides that you should look into other issues related to traveling abroad, which is your visa, passport, climate, cultural issues and language barrier. Although language is not a problem in India –as most of the people are well verse in English. But you should make sure that you have a reliable hand holding person to guide you through the various steps of getting medical treatment and surgery in India.

Hope this helps.

Sleeve gastrectomy surgery is one of the safest and rapid weight loss procedures for higher risk obese patients. It is relatively a new approach for those with a body mass index over 50 and is ideal for patients with anemia and other medical complications.

Sleeve gastrectomy surgery is the process of reducing the size of the patient's stomach permanently. It helps you lose weight by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten at one time.

The amount of weight loss after a sleeve gastrectomy is dependent upon the size of the sleeve created. In general, a person may expect to lose between 30 to 35% of their initial body weight or roughly 40 pounds in a year.

Procedure

This procedure is performed laparoscopically and under a general anesthetic. Your surgeon will make 4 to 5 small incisions in the abdomen. He then inserts a series of instruments along with a camera. This camera is able to relay what it focuses onto a large video screen outside. This screen enables the surgeon to have a closer view and also useful for the placement of the instruments and stapling of the stomach. The stomach is restricted by stapling and dividing it vertically and removing more than 85%.

The remaining stomach is shaped like a very small banana and measures from 1-5 ounces depending on the patient.

No interference with small intestine and no changes to the normal digestive function of the stomach. You have a much smaller stomach, for which patients feel full after eating very small amounts of food.

Along with the large portion of the stomach, your hunger hormone 'ghrelin' is also removed. This hormone is responsible for stimulating your appetite that means no hunger experience any more.

After surgery

You will only be allowed to drink water in the first 24 hours after surgery. This will make sure that there are no problems with you consuming liquids or fluids. Following that, you will go on a liquid diet for next few days, then this will be followed by semi-solids and then solid foods gradually.

Unlike other forms of bariatric surgery, the outlet valve and the nerves to the stomach remain intact. The stomach continues to function normally and so there are fewer restrictions on the foods after surgery. However, it is the responsibility of the patient to reduce the quantity of food to be eaten.

Benefits

Not only is it a one-time procedure, one of the greatest advantages of this surgery, which includes removal of the part of the stomach and elimination of hunger stimulation hormones from your body.

You will experience dramatic weight loss in the first twelve months after surgery. Again, it will reduce your risks of developing co-morbidity such as heart disease, stroke or lever disease and diabetics. Other important benefits include improved confidence level, healthy lifestyle and a more positive outlook on life. It is also considered much safer.

Disadvantages

Though the risks are known to be much lower than other forms of bariatric surgery, one of the major disadvantages of this kind of surgery is that it is not reversible.  Some higher BMI patients may need to have a second stage procedure later to help lose the rest of their body weight. And like any surgical operation, sleeve gastrectomy also has possible complications like leakage, bleeding etc.

Alma Orozco is a certified patient coordinator of the Ready4Achange team for weight loss surgery in Monterrey, Mexico. Monterrey is rated as the safest city in Latin America and the medical facilities out there are certified by US hospitals.

Compression stockings (also known as medical stockings) are used to treat problems with blood and fluid circulation in the leg.  Compression treatment is simple, relatively painless, and helps to decrease or eliminate the need for drug or surgical treatment of sluggish circulation.

Circulation problems are frequently a symptom of a larger disease or disorder rather than a disorder in and of itself (i.e. diabetes.)  When poor circulation is an issue, the extremities such as the feet and hands suffer the most damage, particularly the feet.  The reason is that these parts of the body are the furthest from the heart.  The circulatory system must work very hard to get oxygenated blood all the way from the heart to the feet, and then return that blood back to the heart for re-oxidization.  It is particularly difficult for blood from the feet to return to the heart via the veins, since blood going in this direction has the added disadvantage of fighting against the pull of gravity.

At the same time, fluid may build up in the lymphatic vessels of the legs and feet.  Fluid is pulled downward through the force of gravity, and then collects and pools there.  This condition is known as edema or lymphedema.  Lymphedema puts the sufferer at a high risk for developing infections in the affected limb/extremity.  In rarer circumstances, lymphedema can lead to skin ulcers, limb deformity and even cancer.

Fortunately, both blood and lymph circulation problems are easily treated through the use of medical compression stockings.  In fact, when these conditions are detected in their early stages, the use of medical stockings may be the only course of treatment that is necessary to reverse the problem.

Compression stockings are sometimes referred to as "graduated compression stockings."  This is because they are constructed in such a manner that the amount of compression is greatest at the ankle.  The degree of compression gradually decreases from the ankle upwards to just below the knee.

Graduated compression accomplishes two things.  First, it helps stave off the pooling effect to begin with.  Second, it helps move blood and fluids upwards from the ankle and back to the heart.  Combined with the force of pumping action in the calves, it essentially works like a machine against the force of gravity.

Medical compression stockings are sold in various levels of compression.  These levels are measured in mmHg (millimeters of mercury.)  They may be purchased in styles that range from 10-15 mmHg up to 50 plus mmHg.  Only 10-15 and 15-20 mmHg stockings may be purchased over the counter.  Higher pressure styles can only be obtained with a doctor's prescription.  Using medical stockings that apply too much pressure can cause damage to the limbs.  Therefore, it's critical to be examined by a doctor who can determine the correct amount of pressure that is needed.

Many people think of compression stockings as unattractive and overly feminine.  While old fashioned varieties may have fit that description, today's technology has improved their aesthetic appearance dramatically.  Medical stockings can be purchased in a range of colors, opacities and styles, rendering them very hard to tell from ordinary socks/stockings.  This makes treatment much easier for the wearer.

What are or can be the daily/weekly routines of a school work experience student in a dental surgery?

1. In the Freshman year you go to classes, and take exams. Depending on which school you attend you may have to take lab courses (e.g., work on models, mannequins or learn computer simulation techniques).

2. In the Sophomore year you again go to classes, take exams. In this year you also take the Part I NAtional Board Exam. So, you have to study for that on top of the exams in the class. You most likely have to continue the practical classes.

3. In the Junior year you still attend some classes, and take exams. However, you start seeing patients in the clinics and also do rotations at different departments. Some schools also have community service requirements these days. You have to do a lot of lab work. For the clinical requirements YOU will have to maintain the patient schedule and will have to make the reminder calls yourself. On many occasions you have to worry about insurance coverage, collections and billing out. Even if those things are not done directly by you, you need to check on that in order to get the credit for the procedure performed / to meet the graduation requirments.

4. In the Senior year you continue the same, but you gradually get done with the classes, your clinical rotations / requirements and lab work increase. In this year you have to take the Part II of the National Board Exam. Also, towards the end of the year you have to take the Licensing exam which has a theoretical and practical components.

The key to success is in being highly organized.

Good luck !!

Just like our parents taught us, there's a time and a place for everything. And farting is no different. While guys can be forward and direct and just let 'em rip and talk about them (instead of feelings) for hours, for women, farting is an entirely different beast. So pay attention here, ladies, Farty Frieda is here to provide you with an invaluable lesson on letting the ass gas go.

As we all continue to learn and grow from others, it truly is my pleasure to share the secrets I've picked up from my variety of lovely lady friends when it comes to finding the right time, place and method to letting your trouser coughs go in front of loved ones new and old.  For me, my best first air biscuit in front of a loved one came when I was in the hospital – farting is the first sign that your body is working again after going under for surgery. It was a new relationship and for sure the best ice breaker. But we're not all so (un)lucky to have a funny story like that.

Take my younger sister (please!) – she's your average college kid, always has a date on Friday and Saturday nights, straight A student. But she can't fart in front of anyone: mom, dad, boyfriends, cousins and she even blames the dog when she lets off an ass rocket. But she has owned a few choice bombs in her history after having her third glass of Pinot. For her, being connected to a fart is truly a feat worse than wearing white after Labor Day. But it sure is funny when her blush isn't just from the vino. I keep telling her that the best way to release the butt hounds is to do it silently and have fun with it: hug a family member, let it slide then blame them! But no, she insists on excusing herself, walking to the restroom and releasing there. Or at a family barbecue, walking to the other side of the house. She might as well just carry a can of room spray she's so polite.

For other hens in the house, subtlety is completely lost and they'd just rather take the fall for the rump shaker. Like my mom. Mom loves tushie trivia: Like finding the source of the gas leak in the house, she enjoys figuring out just what she ate that's responsible for the assignation. Was it the tacos? The milk? The coffee? It's like fart-accompanied multiple-choice exams. But fun. Her rumblers are less entertainment and more trivia, and it's a great way to take the focus off the stench when the answer truly is dairy related.

Then there's me, Farty Frieda. It used to be just Frieda. But like all good things, I like to take personal ownership of the tasks I've mastered, and farting is most certainly one of them. I name them: Dairy Doozies, Flame Throwers, Green Fogs, Lingerer, Loud But Proud, Machine Gunners and Singing Elephants. My theory is that the best way to let 'em fly is to just own it. Be proud!

So whether you're hush-hush about the puffers, inquisitive about the source of the leak or you wear your stink bombs like a badge of pride, farting for women is truly a reflection of our personalities.

Have you ever idly wondered what goes into the packet or tin of dog food, you lovingly feed your dog? Perhaps you fear the worst and don't want to know. Putting your head in the sand may make you feel a bit better in the short term, but it is likely to cost you dearly in the long term.

Why?

Food, by virtue of its daily consumption, is one of the most important parts of your health. And obviously the same applies to your dog.

If you don't feed your dog quality dog food, he is likely to suffer ongoing ill health. This translates into hundreds, if not thousands, in veterinarian bills.

So let's have a look at how dog food is produced in most countries, especially by the big commercial pet food companies.

A rendering plant is sort of an adjunct to a slaughterhouse. It's where unusable parts of slaughtered animals or dead animals on a massive scale are disposed. It also includes retail food outlet waste.

Typical unusable waste from slaughterhouses includes heads, hooves, beaks, intestines, bones, blood, etc.

Dead animals can be road kill, euthanised pets from veterinarians or animal shelters, zoo animals or horses.

Retail food waste includes food past its use by date.

On the surface, none of this sounds too bad. Perhaps you can consider most of it as acceptable ingredients for your dog food. But let's have a closer look.

Bones, in particular spines, and brains from the heads of cattle can be the source of bovine spongiform encephalogathy (mad-cow disease, BSE), Although these parts are not permitted now, to be included in human food, policing this is almost impossible in a rendering plant.

Animals are euthanised with sodium pentobarbital. This cannot be broken down in the processing.

Euthanised dogs and cats frequently still ware collars, including pet identification discs and flea collars. Flea collars normally contain organophosphate insecticides.

Pets, zoo and farm animals can contain heavy metals from their identi chip, or ID tags and from surgical pins.

Farm animals may contain insecticide patches.

Farm animals who have died can contain toxic levels of veterinary medications, including high levels of antibiotics, hormones or pesticides, to name just a few. Animals who have died naturally, may have done so from cancer, an organ failure, TB or a host of other hazardous diseases.

Retail food waste is often still wrapped meat, past it's use by date. Wrapping is normally styrofoam trays covered with cling film.

Euthanised pets from veterinarians and animal shelters often come in plastic bags.

Generally there is not the strict hygiene afforded to rendering plants, that there is to slaughter houses. So carcasses can be piled up waiting in summer heat. This means that maggots are a very real part of the end product, as least for that processed in summer. Rat infestations at rendering plants may not be common in many of them, but it is not rare either.

With the ever increasing cost of labour, removing collars and plastic wrapping is just out of the question. Removing implanted identichips or surgical pins would be nearly impossible.

It is unavoidable that toxic waste is a part of the end products of a rendering plant.

So that's the raw material of a rendering plant. What about the processing? This involves grinding the raw material and then cooking for long periods under pressure and high temperature. Some may be further dried.

Depending on the particular rendering plant, the end products are called recycled meat, meat meal, poultry meal, bone meal, blood meal, animal meal, fish meal, poultry by-products, meat by-products, tallow, beef fat, chicken fat, animal fat, yellow grease, food enhancer, protein, calcium, phosphorus. Many  are sold as a source of protein, energy, mineral or enhancer for farm animals, horses and pets. In fact any livestock.

About a third of rendering plant end products are used as the basis of commercial cat and dog food.

The quality bit.

The meat source,

The protein.

Thereafter, the ingredients deteriorate, with filler (perhaps sugar or melamine from China or any other cheap 'food'), isolated and synthetic nutrients and toxic preservatives, making up the balance. Then it may be irradiated.

You may find it hard to believe that any part of the entire produce could possibly translate as nourishing dog food, that a vet would recommend for a healthy life.

The end result means that commercialisation has forced your dog to become a cannibal.

Working In a Veterniary Marketing Job

The amount of and importance placed upon pets in the is booming and so are businesses that deal with these pets. One of the main businesses in this area is veterinary practices. Although this kind of business is a professional practice, like a human physician, it is still a business. Thus, there is a need for marketing these practices and the services and products they provide.

In performing a veterinary marketing job, you must have clearly in mind what they are marketing and who the audience is. Also, marketing is much more than just selling. It also includes issues such as branding, publicity, pricing, image and so on. Also, the size of the practice will influence the scope of the veterinary marketing job. If it's a small to medium practice, the marketer will probably be a generalist, who has to perform a multitude of marketing functions. However, if the practice is a larger one, than there will be a need for veterinary marketing job specialists.

One of the most common and sometimes most important function in a veterinary marketing job is that of advertising. This used to be a much more simple task comprised largely of designing and placing printed ads in the local Yellow Pages and newspapers. Today, much or most of the advertising is done via what's called new media, mostly through the internet. Having an effective website is critical, plus driving visitors to that site and converting as many as possible into new clients. Then there is also the whole area of social networking, such as blogs, vlogs, podcasting, Facebook and the like.

Another very important function of a veterinary marketing job is to nurture and grow referrals for new clients. Besides "word of mouth", referrals are a key ingredient in growing and maintaining a successful veterinary practice and business. If the practice you work for is a specialist, say a veterinary orthopedic surgeon, it is crucial to garner referrals from generalist veterinary generalist practitioners. If your veterinary marketing job is for a generalist, it is very important to obtain and maintain a flow of referrals from sources such as local pet shops, kennels, breeders, pet clubs and related businesses and organizations.

Another important, but often thought of as mundane, part of a veterinary marketing job is to be concerned with daily operational issues. One basic issue here is something as simple but very important such as answering the phone. Who answers the phone? Exactly what do they say when they do answer the phone? How are messages handled? It is very true in business that the first impression you make is critical and that you often don't get a "second chance". The first impression of a potential client is very often tainted through an initial phone call. Thus, the manner of answering the phone and exactly how the calls are handled are indeed very important.

The more fun tasks in a veterinary marketing job are things such as doing animal demonstrations at local schools and civic organizations. Also, you can deliver speeches and seminars on pet selection and care to local groups and organizations. Of course, when you do such activities, you must make sure that the veterinary business you work for gets plenty of "plugs", such as prominently displayed signs or banners; freely distributed business cards and brochures, and a popular technique are give-aways such as calendars, water bowls, pet toys, etc.

As you can see, a veterinary marketing job can be demanding, as well as dynamic, fun and rewarding as well. May you have success in beginning this path!
